How to Make Chocolate Tuxedo Strawberries

It’s almost Valentine’s Day, and one of the best gifts you can give your sweetie is homemade chocolate covered strawberries. But I figure why not class it up a bit by learning how to make chocolate tuxedo strawberries! They taste better, look better, and aren’t that much more difficult to make!

INGREDIENTS

  • Strawberries with Stems
  • White Chocolate
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Waxed Paper
  • Cookie Sheet
  • Toothpicks

DIRECTIONS

1. Wash the strawberries, and leave the stems on – it looks nicer, and it gives you something to hold on to!
2. Line the cookie sheet with waxed paper.
3. Make sure the strawberries are completely dry before starting the dipping process, to ensure that the chocolate sticks.
4. Melt the white chocolate, either in the microwave or in a double boiler. To melt in the microwave, place chips in a microwave safe bowl for 30 second increments, stirring between each time, until melted.
5. Hold the strawberries by the stem/leaves, and dip completely in the white chocolate. Let excess drain back into the bowl. Place strawberry on the waxed paper. Repeat with all strawberries.
6. Place the tray in the refridgerator until the chocolate has hardened, usually about 20 minutes.
7. Now melt the dark chocolate either in a double boiler or in the microwave as above. Make sure that the chocolate is melted, but isn’t so hot that it melts the white chocolate layer!
8. Holding by the leaves, dip the strawberry in the chocolate about 3/4 of the way, at an angle (until it forms the tuxedo look. Let the excess drip back into the bowl.
9. Repeat with all strawberries.
10. Dip a toothpick in the dark chocolate and draw the tuxedo buttons and bow tie on the strawberries (you’ll have to use several toothpicks, as the chocolate builds up).
11. Place the finished chocolate tuxedo strawberries in the fridge until the chocolate has hardened.
