Oh, who doesn’t love strawberry pie? I remember as a kid we used to go to Shoney’s every week – and the big treat at the end of the meal was pie. And now you can recreate that childhood fun with this recipe for Shoney’s strawberry pie! Yay!
I’ve assume that you already have a pie shell – you can make it yourself with your favorite recipe, or get the pre-baked ones at the grocery store.
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
6 tablespoons strawberry Jello
1 1/2 pint whole strawberries
Whipping cream (Cool Whip or other)
Heat water very hot, then add cornstarch and sugar until fully mixed. Then add the strawberry Jello. Place drained whole fresh strawberries into baked deep dish 9 inch pie shell, stack as high as you dare. Lastly, pour the Jello mixture over the berries. Chill for two hours at least. Top with a large dollop of whipping cream.
I prefer my strawberries sliced, so I do that – but Shoney’s had large, whole strawberries. Otherwise, this is a great approximation. And I don’t skimp on the Cool Whip. Love it!
