I first tried to find Cream Cheese Wontons recipes after eating crab puffs at Pei Wei. They were so good, I just had to make them myself. I’ve tried a few different recipes, but none were quite right – until I found this one.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 pkg. won-ton wrappers
- 1 tsp. garlic powder or herbs
- 14 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup green onions
- 2-3 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce
- water
- pepper
- canola oil for frying
- crab meat (optional)
DIRECTIONS
- Pour canola oil into frying pan, about 1 inch deep. Preheat oil to 325 degrees.
- Combine cream cheese, green onions, crab meat, garlic powder and a dash of pepper in a bowl.
- Place 1 tsp of the filling from step 2, and place it in the center of a wonton wrapper. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with water, then the corners of the wonton wrapper together, completely covering the filling.
- Carefully place the wontons in the pan (they are delicate!) and cook for 30 seconds on 1 minute, until they are golden brown.
- Place cooked wontons on paper towel to drain.
- Eat with orange sauce, soy sauce, or your favorite Oriental dipping sauce.
These come out delicious! While I’m a big fan of this cream cheese wontons recipe, I now need to find a good recipe for the orange dipping sauce they use at Pei Wei (and PF Changs). Can anyone help me out with that?

2Orange sauce at Pei Wei is a Sweet Chili sauce. You can find it in the asian foods section at your grocery store already bottled. Taste just the same and I love it. Put it on everything!

6It makes about 10 or 12 as I remember. Depending on your meal plan, I’d probably make two batches. Good luck!
